Joe Perniciaro
Reaction to Social Media Firing Video

1. My initial reaction is one of shock, yet I can understand where employers are coming from. In today's society people are very critical of what we say, especially on controversial topics. It can appear negative for the employer, and in some cases, termination is the only option.

2. The employer said that the reason for the termination was that "they did not want to be associated with the controversial topic, whether positive or negative.

3. Although some may think it was wrong, the firing was legal because Coats for Kids is a private organization with its own set of guidelines.

4. A digital footprint refers to the event which you left an impact which you may not be able to remove, and if tracked, can lead right to you.

5. Even with maximum security settings, the posts on facebook and twitter are not private, and even if you delete, they can still be found.

6. I would have, knowing his employer and the controversial topic, advised him to think twice about the post.

1. My initial reaction is not one of shock. She should have known not to mix her personal social media with her professional life.

2. The employer Texas Roadhouse, said the reason for firing was because the waitress called the customer a derivative name. Also the customer brought in a printed out copy of the Facebook post in which the waitress complained about bad tips.

3. As in the first case, this firing is legal because it is a private company. They have their own restrictions and standards.
